Disorder Design makes tasteless Soft Kill 'cancel culture' shirt for convicted of domestic battery frontman Tobias
Disorder Design, the merch company of Deeper Graves and Chrome Waves Jeff Wilson (ex- Nachtmystium, Wolvhammer etc,) just did something really gross. I am very disappointed in dude, who I had considered a friend and had even collabed with once on a song before that I really love, but we had never met. But this is super unacceptable.
Jeff's company recently posted about a new shirt design for the tattered and disgraced remains of post punk band Soft Kill. Tobias was recently convicted of domestic battery, not "just" allegations.
His ex Nicole (now of the brilliant band Shadow Age who you should absolutely support instead) not only made Soft Kill the stylish force they briefly were for a few albums, but she has plenty of photos of her abuse she endured. Not to mention the shirt looks like shit compared to all the dope shit she has come up with over the years and it isn't even close.
I have been not sleeping at all due to cat searching for a missing cat every night and sort of collapsing and listening to the lovely new New Idea Society record, doomscroll debating people about Bananagate (team consent and banana) and staying alive from an IV drip of coffee while preparing for an upcoming surgery and working myself to death at my shitty day job. Not much time to blog at all about music, politics or anything. But this was so wrong it spurred me to get off my ass and speak up.
First of all, if you are doing anything anti-"cancel culture" in 2026 you are in the wrong. It is accountability culture and healthy discourse around it is sorely lacking. We need more people like Nancpantz in the scene, not more Louis C.K. or Decapitated types. "CaNcEr CuLtUrE". Fuck off, we live with pedos running the government and anything goes and it is a toxic sewer everyday as a result.
This kind of bullshit is part of the problem.
WTF prompted dude to take this print job and think it was ok? This shirt is up there with the OJ Simpson "If I Did It" book or whatever of bad looks. And the shirt also uses a pre-trainwreck Kanye image about valuing Black Lives post the awful Bush Katrina response and trash meme repurposes it as DV enabling "cancel culture" slop. Just garbage in so many ways. Fuckkkkk that shit.
Then again, I am just remembering I think Jeff was on a "no safe spaces" tour once upon a time. Really ugly decision.
